Sometimes our dog’s nails can become a little too long. We try and wear them out the best way that we can by taking them on walks and letting them go on harder surfaces, however it does not always work. This means that we have to trim them ourselves unless we want to pay somebody else to do it for us and the latter is not always an option for many people. So, just how do you trim a dog’s nails?

Firstly you need a good nail trimmer for dogs. Do not try and use your own as it will simply not be strong enough! Another thing to remember is that when it comes to cutting the nail you should always cut it from underneath first instead of going from the top of the nail. You really have to watch for the pink part of the nail as that is where all of the blood vessels are and if you touch that you will have to rush your dog to the vets and they will not thank you for it!

So, stick to the white part of the nail and trim it as precisely as you can. If you do manage to cut your dogs nails too far and a little blood appears, simply place some tissue over it to secure the bleeding and have some wound powder handy. Trimming your dogs nails can be hard work but it is worth it if it helps out your loyal companion.
